Wanderlust Wednesday: Botswana

It’s Wednesday again, and I’m dreaming of another far-off destination. This week, my attention is turned to the African country of Botswana.

Botswana first came to my attention through the HBO series based on the Ladies No.1 Detective Agency books (by the way, both the series and the books are great, if you’re wondering). I hadn’t really thought much about Botswana before that, but I found myself captivated with the beautiful scenery and bright, colorful patterns from the show. Thus, my Botswana wanderlust began.

Located just North of South Africa, it’s a lovely little country that I fully plan on visiting someday. This landlocked country is one of the most stable countries in Africa. It’s sparsely populated and boasts fantastic opportunities to experience incredible African wilderness. Botswana is a popular safari destination which (unfortunately for me) can often cater to upmarket (read: more expensive) travelers.

You can learn more about the country and fuel your own Botswana wanderlust by visiting their tourism website at

Have you ever been to Botswana? I would love to hear all about it!

  1. It is indeed quite expensive in Botswana, however there is always a solution! It is possible to rent a car in South Africa and take it to Namibia, Botswana and if I am not mistaken to Zimbabwe. With a camping equipment, the trip gets much more affordable, at least that what we hope for 😀 We are planning to go to Africa this winter, so looking forward!!

    • That sounds like a good idea! We’re going to Japan as our next really big trip, but after that we’re going to save up for Africa so I’ve been looking into it as well. South Africa is definitely on the agenda, but I would love to go to Botswana, Namibia, and Zimbabwe. Alternatively, we might do Kenya and Tanzania, but we haven’t decided yet. Which countries we end up visiting of course will depend on our budget and how long we can get away for, but I always like to dream big and then scale it down as needed after. Your trip sounds so fun, you’re going to have a great time!
