To quote the great Audrey Hepburn, “Paris is always a good idea.”
In 2005, I saw Paris for the first time in my life, and I was immediately captivated by the beauty and charm of the place. There is something about the light in Paris that makes it more beautiful than pictures can describe.
I fell in love with the sights, the sounds, the food. Oh, the food! I don’t think I had a bad meal while I was there, from the crepe stands in front of the Eiffel Tower, to the bistros and cafes we spent so much time lingering in.
The French capital is a magical place, a sensual place. It’s somewhere that everybody should see in their lifetime. I, for one, plan to go back as many times as possible.
I have two great loves in my life: one is my husband, and the other is the city of Paris.
Here is why you will fall in love with Paris, too:
Imagine, if you will, the most amazing meal you can. The food in France is even better than that. Even things such as humble bread and cheese take on new flavors and textures in France. Think freshly baked baguette and creamy, flavorful cheeses. Think light and airy sorbets and rich, perfectly portioned pastries. Don’t forget a glass of local wine or champagne while you’re there. This city is meant to be experienced through your taste buds.
The iconic sights.
The Eiffel Tower, the Seine, the Champs Elysées, the Arc de Triomphe, the Moulin Rouge. This is a city you’ve seen in pictures, in movies, and described in books. This is a city you know, and yet it’s so much more. To actually see it in person is an experience that will leave you feeling as giddy as a school child on a field trip. You need to see these places in person.
Getting lost in Paris.
Paris is an amazing city to get lost in. Don’t be afraid to stroll down a new street. You never know what delights are waiting just around the corner. There are amazing cafes, hidden courtyards, and beautiful parks that are just off the beaten path.
Paris is a city with so much history. There are so many historical monuments and sites to see, and so much to learn. There is the Notre Dame cathedral, the Pantheon, Sacré-Cour, Les Invalides, the Bastille, and of course the not-to-be-missed Palace de Versailles. Take some time to explore these sites (and more!) and learn about the rich, superbly interesting history of Paris.
Paris is an art lover’s dream city. Of course, they have the Musee d’Orsay and The Louvre, which are some of the most incredible, world-famous art museums in the world, but there are many, many more museums to explore if you have the time. Not only museums, but art galleries, street art, and even painters presenting their works along the banks of the Seine.
In short, Paris is always a good idea. If you’re hesitating on whether or not you should book a trip to see this amazing place, the answer is yes. You should.
