I’m always on the lookout for awesome artistic inspiration, be it photography, sculpture, paintings, film, or anything else. Today I discovered the awesome Instagram of Stephan McMennamy and I just had to share it with all of you.
McMennamy likes to do combinations of two photos that, when put together, form an interesting scene or tell a story. I spent quite a bit of time pouring over his photos and I wanted to share some of my favorites with you. I picked some of his more “travel themed” images to share with you in this post, but definitely check his Instagram because there are a ton of really interesting images from all subject matters.
tree trunk + elephant trunk I've been wanting to do something with an elephant for a while now, but two things happened with that, I never felt like I had a super solid idea and I don't have access to elephants. Like ever. Cut to me in the Bahamas over thanksgiving and I couldn't help but notice how a lot of the palm trees grew low out the ground and every one of them looked like an elephant head… to me anyway. So that's what rattled around in my head and it quickly led to me obsessing over how to find a way to combine the two. And though I prefer to shoot these #combophotos myself, I also knew my elephant access was super limited. So rather than booking a flight to Africa I went online trying to find the perfect elephant. Which I did and what I found just so happened to work perfectly. This beautiful elephant image was captured behind the lens of Jez Bennett, a phenomenal nature photographer based in Zimbabwe. Huge thanks to Jez and please check out more of his work at… jezbennett.com And a final thanks to the world wide web for being so world wide.
bridge + guitar getting this shot of the Brooklyn bridge with @flynyon was one of the more memorable experiences I've ever had. BONUS: we surprised the kids with an aerial excursion over Manhattan and I can honestly say I've never seen my straight-faced daughter smile as much as she did that day. more helicopter views on @combophotofail #combophoto 😀🚁
hose + waterfall ventured out to Grotto Falls in the Great Smokey Mountains (Tennessee) for this #combophoto. and then ventured out to the bushes in my front yard for the hose shot. hand modeling courtesy of @lmcm2 and freezing cold water modeling courtesy of my brother in law and my youngest daughter. thanks for all the fam love and assistance… ⚡️👊🏻⚡️
daughter holding wire + ski lift I've been holding on to this one since our ski trip last year. winter wasn't much of a winter out west last year. heading out to do more of the same tomorrow. hoping El Niño dumps massive amounts of snow directly under my skis. for some reason I enjoyed the fine detail of how well these wires (and their threading) lined up. it's the little things. aforementioned little thing is up on @combophotofail. prepare to be underwhelmed. #tbt #combophoto
drink umbrella + beach umbrella.🍹🌂 I'll lay off umbrellas after this. a big thank you to @asdzxc1986 and @jfigman for helping me out on this one. when I ran into these two they'd just rolled in to LA after a 15 hour plane ride from the Ukraine. (and during our brief conversation about @instagram Dmitriy and I quickly discovered we both follow @twheat. Ukraine/Atlanta/LA… I dig that.) more #combophoto's ⬅️ here. #combophotos
