Wanderlust Wednesday: Iran

Iran gets a bit of a bad rep, but I know a few people who are originally from Iran and they are some of the warmest, loveliest people I’ve ever met. From all accounts of travelers who have actually been to Iran, they found the locals to be friendly and welcoming (yes, even to Americans like myself), and interested and happy to have visitors. The thing is…Iran is actually a pretty cool place with a lot of things to see and do, amazing food, and a rich cultural heritage. Despite the things the news loves to say, I think it’s worth a visit.

However, getting there is a little complicated.

All foreign visitors require a visa to enter Iran. Most European passport holders are now able to get up to a 30 day visa on arrival and travel independently in Iran. Currently UK, USA and Canadian passport holders are not able to obtain independent travel visas for Iran.

That being said, it is possible to travel to Iran as an American, but it’s a lot more restricted and requires either a private or group tour as well as a more stringent visa process. This blogger goes into the options for traveling to Iran as an American if you’re interested.

All of that being said and even though I have to go on a tour (lame…not a big fan of tours), I would still go if I had the opportunity. There’s a rich culture to explore, and a little cultural understanding between two at-odds cultures is always good to make the world a little bit of a better place.

With that being said, I’m focusing on some of the beautiful things one can experience while traveling to Iran, and these Instagrammers are certainly inspiring me this week….

Kabab koobideh is an Iranian meat kabob made from ground lamb or beef, often mixed with parsley and chopped onions. Usually served with onions and skewered peppers and tomatoes🍅🍅🍅.
