Music That Will Inspire You to Travel

A while back, I did a post on Country music that will improve your summer, but if you’re just not that into Country music, you might be in the mood for a little travel inspiration, too! So, I decided to bring you a second post with even more inspiring travel music, this time with no Country songs…I promise.

Note: This post was inspired by my Country music loathing husband. Me? I’m into all kinds of music, but I get it…some of you don’t like Country, hahaha.

Leaving on a Jet Plane by Peter, Paul, and Mary

This 1967 classic is one that I silently hum to myself basically every time I board a flight.

Oh, kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you’ll wait for me
Hold me like you’ll never let me go
‘Cause I’m leavin’ on a jet plane
Don’t know when I’ll be back again

Same in Any Language, by Nine

This song, released in 2005, is a mellow, folksy song…

Sometime ago I met a Navajo
In a parking lot in Tokyo
He said everything wordlessly
Wanderlust in my eyes he did see

Vacation by the Go Go’s

Looking for something a little more upbeat? How about this awesome 1982 hit from the Go Go’s?

All I ever wanted
Had to get away
Meant to be spent alone

Africa by Toto

I really want to go to Africa! Why haven’t I been there yet? …expensive. Sigh. But plans are in the works to get there sometime in the next few years. In the meantime, every time I listen to this song, I imagine myself in a Jeep on the Savannah.

It’s gonna take a lot to take me away from you
There’s nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had
The wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless, longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do what’s right
As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti
I seek to cure what’s deep inside, frightened of this thing that I’ve become

Time to Move On by Tom Petty

It’s time to move on, time to get going / What lies ahead, I have no way of knowing / But under my feet, baby, grass is growing / It’s time to move on, it’s time to get going.

Free Bird by Lynrd Skynrd

If I leave here tomorrow / Would you still remember me? / For I must be traveling on, now / ‘Cause there’s too many places I’ve got to see.

Ramblin’ Man by the Allman Brothers

Lord, I was born a ramblin’ man
Tryin’ to make a livin’ and doin’ the best I can
And when it’s time for leavin’
I hope you’ll understand
That I was born a ramblin’ man

What are your favorite travel tunes?

**Also, special thanks to the above Instagrammers for their awesome images 🙂
