Paris is known of the city of lights…the city of love. While it’s true that it’s an amazing, romantic, beautiful place to explore, there’s more than one trick to this pony. Paris is also edgy, hip, full of history, and more. It’s also a place where some pretty creepy things can be found if you look just below the surface. The good news for you lovers of creepy attractions out there, is that there are a lot of these places that the public can actually visit. Yes please!

So, if you’re like me and you’re interested in seeing a little bit of the creepier side to Paris, read on…

The Catacombs

Perhaps the most famous of Paris’ creepy places, the Catacombs are known around the world to be a creepy, incredible sight. This underground ossuary contains the remains of more than 6 million people. It was originally created to alleviate the cemeteries of Paris, which were quite full in 1774, when preparations began. In the 19th century, they started holding events such as concerts and parties down there. You can visit this unique curiosity while you’re in Paris and see it for yourself. Check their website for hours, ticket prices, and other details.

The Cemeteries of Paris

What’s creepier than a cemetery? The good news is that Paris has some fabulous ones! While hanging out with the dead might not be everybody’s idea of a good time, I personally find them to be beautiful, serene places. Plus, the cemeteries of Paris are special. If you’re going to visit just one while you’re in town, I recommend the Cimetière du Père Lachaise, which is home to famous graves such as Jim Morrison, Édith Piaf, Molière, and more. The grounds are gorgeous and it really makes for an amazing day strolling in the park-like atmosphere. Other worthwhile cemeteries to visit in Paris include the Cimetière de Montmartre, the Cimetière du Montparnasse, the Cimetière de Passy, and the Cimetière de Picpus. Now who is down for a picnic in the cemetery? Allons-y!

This museum is a must for anybody who enjoys things like creepy medical models, old medical instruments, and the uneasy feeling you get when you realize just how far medicine has come in the past few centuries. Enjoy sights such as old prosthetic limbs, and other oddities made of human body parts. This small museum will not only leave you thoroughly creeped out, but you’ll also learn something about how things were done in a bygone era.

Paris Sewer Museum

I’m going to preface this one by letting you all know that I will NOT be visiting this one. My stomach is too weak and I don’t fancy vomiting. That being said, if you’ve got a strong constitution, this museum might be of interest to you. It’s definitely interesting if you’re into oddities, engineering, public works, or seeing the underground of a city. I hear it smells like…well, a sewer, though. Unfortunately that makes it a tough one for me.

Did I miss your favorite Paris creepy attraction? Please, do tell!
